FG shortlists 20 candidates to succeed Idris as AGF

The Federal Government has shortlisted 20 candidates for the vacant position of Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).

According to a government circular, the 20 candidates were chosen from Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The former AGF, Ahmed Idris was detained in Kano after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invited him to provide information on a N109 billion fraud.

The Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed placed Idris on indefinite leave “without pay” after two days.

Chukwunyere Anamekwe, who was chosen to replace Idris in an acting capacity, was also removed.

In the circular, the government explained that the shortlist followed reports of the anti-corruption agencies on the screening of prospective candidates that applied to participate in the process for the appointment of a substantive AGF.

It said the accreditation process for the shortlisted candidates would commence today, 9th January.

“Consequently, the shortlisted candidates are to come for the accreditation exercise scheduled to take place from Monday 9th to Wednesday 11th January 2023 at Olusegun Obasanjo Hall, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Federal Secretariat, Phase lI, Abuja between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm each day”, the circular stated.

Those shortlisted include Mohammed Aminu Yara’abba (Federal Fire Service); Danladi Zakowi Comfort (Ministry of Interior); Mahmud Adam Kambari (North East Development Commission); Mohammed Magaji. M. Doho (Ministry of Interior); Waziri Amos Samuel (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); and Madein Oluwatoyin Sakirat (Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation).

Others are Adaramoye Joseph Oluwole (Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs); Isa Abubakar (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation); Ogunsemowo Oladipupo Olakunle (Ministry of Environment); Egbokale Kadiri Charity (Nigeria Football Federation); and Ibrahim Saadiyya Jibo (National Boundary Commission).
