A media practitioner and naturalist, Oluwabukunolami Okunfunke has extended warm congratulations to City People Publisher, Mr. Seye Kehinde on being conferred with national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), by President Bola Tinubu.

President Tinubu announced this at the National Assembly during his State of the Nation address to mark Democracy Day on Thursday.

In a statement, Okunfunke, who is also the Iyalode Adulawo and former writer with City People, extolled Kehinde’s describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s media space who had demonstrated excellence, resilience, and a commitment to truth through journalism.

She added that the OON honour was a fitting recognition of the awardee’s lifelong passion, entrepreneurial courage, and contributions to the growth of media and democracy in Nigeria.

She said: ‘It is with immense joy and pride that I extend my warmest congratulations to you, Mr. Seye Kehinde, on your conferment with the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

‘This national recognition is far more than a personal accolade — it is a testament to a life dedicated to excellence, resilience, and the pursuit of truth through journalism.

‘For decades, you have stood as a towering figure in Nigeria’s media space. Through City People magazine, you have not only chronicled history but helped to shape it — giving a voice to the voiceless, celebrating achievements often overlooked, and preserving the rich tapestry of our culture, politics, entertainment, and business.

‘Your journey has been marked by a deep sense of purpose and an unwavering belief in the power of storytelling to inspire change. In an era when sensationalism often overshadows substance, you have remained a beacon of integrity and thoughtful reporting. Your commitment to nurturing young talent and building a legacy that empowers the next generation of media professionals speaks volumes of your visionary leadership.

T’he OON is a fitting honour for a man whose pen has not only reported events but moved minds, stirred hearts, and impacted the soul of a nation. It is a national salute to your lifelong passion, your entrepreneurial courage, and your indelible contributions to the growth of media and democracy in Nigeria.

‘As you wear this honour, may it serve as both a celebration of your accomplishments and a fresh reminder that your work continues to matter — perhaps now more than ever. Your story reminds us all that purpose, passion, and perseverance will always be recognised, no matter how long the journey.

‘Congratulations once again, Sir. May you continue to rise, inspire, and illuminate the path for others’.
