In a significant acknowledgement of his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC), has been conferred with the Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) honour.

This follows a list of additional honorees obtained after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Democracy Day address to a joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025.

Rafsanjani, who also heads Transparency International (Nigeria), is a prominent figure in Nigeria’s civic space, known for his decades-long commitment to transparency, accountability, and civil rights.

He also serves as a Trustee and Standing Representative of Amnesty International (Nigeria) and is Chairman of the Transition Monitoring Group (TMG), Nigeria’s foremost election observation coalition.

His inclusion alongside other iconic figures of Nigeria’s democratic and civic struggles underscores the increasing recognition of civil society’s pivotal role in national development and institutional reform.

The 2025 Democracy Day National Honours span multiple categories and acknowledge the contributions of prominent figures across activism, journalism, governance, and public service.
