The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has said that it is not disturbed over the allegation of the possible defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Wednesday, PDP’s state Chairman, Dr. Robinson Ewor said that whatever decision the governor takes ‘is personal’.

He stated that, as an individual, Fubara has every legitimate right to take any political interest that he deems fit, as far as such decision or action would be to the overall interest of the people who elected him as their governor against other interests.

President Bola Tinubu declared a six-month emergency rule in the state following political turbulence.

According to sources, one of the items on the peace agreement, which Fubara alleged signed last June, is that he should defect to the APC.

But, Ewor said that he was not aware of such a plan, nor had the governor informed him of his intention to leave the party.

Fubara was sighted with the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, who is also Governor of Imo State, ushering his governor-colleague to President Tinubu’s office on Monday.

Also striking was Fubara’s failure to appreciate or mention the role of his party in ensuring that democracy was returned to the state.

At least 11 PDP governors had dragged the APC government to court, seeking a reversal of the state of emergency, while some other prominent Nigerians voiced out the decision, describing it as highly ‘unconstitutional’.
