The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 11 suspected drug dealers and recovered 68 bags of cannabis in a clampdown on illicit drug trafficking within Abuja.
According to a statement on Saturday by Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, the suspects were apprehended during a series of coordinated raids carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Unit across identified drug black spots in the FCT.
The operation, which forms part of ongoing efforts to curb crime and protect communities from the dangers of substance abuse, was described by the police as a ‘major step’ towards dismantling criminal supply networks operating in the nation’s capital.
‘The Command remains committed to intensifying its operations against drug-related offences while ensuring that harmful substances are kept away from our communities’, the Command stated.
It added that the police would continue to build on the momentum of the raids to cut off drug-fueled crime and urged residents to support the efforts by volunteering credible information.
Citizens were encouraged to reach the Command through its emergency hotlines: 08061581938, 08032003913, and the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) line: 08107314192.
The police assured that investigations into the activities of the arrested suspects are ongoing, and those found culpable will be charged to court.
