Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped man and recovered his vehicle, a firearm, and ammunition abandoned by fleeing suspects in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the rescue was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad.

According to the statement, the operatives, acting on a distress call, swiftly responded to reports of the victim’s abduction within the Awkunanaw area of Enugu on 19 October 2025, at about 11:30 p.m.

‘The team pursued the suspects to the Ozalla/Umueze axis of Nkanu West LGA, where they abandoned the victim, his Lexus 350 car, and one locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with three live ammunition, before escaping’, the statement read.

Ndukwe added that the rescued victim was later reunited with his family, while investigations and a manhunt for the fleeing suspects were ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their swift and professional response.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against criminals in the state and urged residents to remain law-abiding and support the Police with credible information that could aid security operations.
