The English dictionary variously defines patriotism to include “love for one’s country”, “devotion to the welfare of one’s compatriots”, and “passion, which inspires one to serve one’s country”.
On the strength of these definitions, the unassuming Chairman of the Ngwa Day 2025 Planning Committee, Dr. Chukwuma Ahiaraumunna Offor has exhibited the actions of a true patriot. Also patriotic are the chairmen of the 13 sub-committees and their members who have been planning and strategising behind the scene to ensure a successful Ngwa Day Celebration 2025 slated for Sunday, 28 December 2025, at Ngwa High School, Aba.
A strategic planner in the mould of a war General, God-fearing, calm and calculated Sir Offor, in concert with his able lieutenants including chairperson of the Contact/Mobilisation sub-committee, Lady Vivian Irondi, who also chairs the Security sub-committee: chairman of the Media/Publicity sub-committee, Mr. Ukaobisike Uzoije; chairman of the Culture/Antiquity sub-committee, Sir Mac Atasie; and chairman of the Symposium/Colloquium sub-committee, High Chief Ubandilonu Nwokoma are having sleepless nights and working round the clock to make the second edition of Ngwa Day Celebration a resounding success.
Other sub-committee chairmen shepherding the occasion with Offor are: Dr. Brightman Onyendi (Entertainment), Dr. Obioma Orji (Tour/Passages), Mr. IK Alozie (Finance/Funding), Chief Stanley Obed (Venue/Logistics), Elder Ubadilogu Alilionwu (Protocols), HRH (Prof.) Eze S. I. Owualah Ndi Eze (Liaison), Dr. Ogwuma (Healthcare/First Responses) and Dr. Chima Nwosu (Productivity/Economic Liaison).
An effective and efficient leader, Offor and his team, in their labour of love for the land of their birth, are offering their expertise, experience, resources and time free of charge in championing the cause of their father land. Such disposition and sacrifice, to say the least, is selflessness on display. It is highly commendable and ought to be embraced by all Ngwa sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora.
Undoubtedly, the financial layout in packaging and delivering an event of such magnitude is quite enormous. It runs into billions of Naira, the implication being that the Ngwa Social Club and other sister organisations spearheading the programme may not comfortably underwrite the huge financial burden needed to execute the engagement.
This is where likes of Offor and his co-labourers, all well meaning Ngwa sons and daughters at home and abroad, should make sacrifices to support the realisation of Ngwa Day 2025 festival. In order words, this is the time for patriotism by all to guarantee the fulfilment of Ngwa Day 2025 which is only a month and few weeks ahead.
To this end, the Chairperson of the Contact/Mobilisation Committee, Irondi, who has personally put in a lot for a fruitful venture, is of the view that no sacrifice is too much for placing the Ngwa nation on the front burner.
Irondi, a progressive, vivacious and financial literacy educator, is confident that paucity of funds will not pose a threat to the accomplishment of the celebration.
An mmazon with vast network of contacts, she declared: ‘Ndi Ngwa Nwere Madu. Our show will definitely be the talk of the town observance if we pull our resources together’.
According to the incurable optimist, with the active participation and financial support of patriotic Ndi Ngwa, the Ngwa Day 2025 promises to be a come and see celebration.
Irondi therefore called on the affluent in Ngwa race, particularly legislators of Ngwa extraction at the National Assembly, the state Houses of Assembly, Mayors of the seven Local Government Areass in Ngwaland, captains of Industry, Ndi Eze and all, to take active ownership of Ngwa Day 2025 by investing handsomely in the project for a better outcome.
