Following a sold-out debut earlier this year, acclaimed poetic- musical, Firestarter the Musical is set to make a highly anticipated return to Lagos for two special shows on the 27th and 28th of December, 2025 at the MUSON Centre, Onikan.
Created and produced by seasoned poet and performer, Shola Amaraibi whose poetry collection forms the foundation of the show and directed by creative visionary Kenneth Uphopho, Firestarter the Musical first captivated audiences in April with its blend of evocative poetry, original music and dance-driven storytelling. The returning edition will feature the original creative team and promises an even deeper, more immersive experience.
Described as a journey of identity, freedom, love, community and resilience. At its heart is the stirring story of Amina, a woman who has spent her life creating for others, only to realize that the greatest creation is the self.
‘The response to our April premiere was nothing short of overwhelming’, says Shola Amaraibi. ‘We were inundated with messages from attendees who saw their own stories on that stage, who felt seen, inspired, empowered. Bringing Firestarter back during the holiday window is our way of answering that call: to close 2025 by reigniting the spark within each person and reminding them of their power’.
Director Kenneth Uphopho adds: ‘As an Artistic director, my dream is to always create work that doesn’t just entertain, but transforms. The magic of Firestarter the Musical lies in its raw, poetic honesty. We’re not simply restaging the show, we’re deepening it. The Muson Centre’s stage and technical capacity allow us to push the boundaries of storytelling and spectacle’, he said.
Scheduled between Christmas and New Year, during Lagos’s vibrant ‘Detty December’ season, Firestarter the Musical aims to deliver a reflective yet celebratory close to 2025, a cultural experience that blends art, emotion and inspiration.
