The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Mr. Lere Olayinka has described the expulsion of his principal, Barrister Nyesom Wike; former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose as ‘Detty December in November’ coming early in Ibadan.
“Detty December” is a slang for the festive, high-energy holiday season in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa, characterised by a wide range of parties, concerts, and cultural events.
In a statement on Saturday, Olayinka noted that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had travelled to Ibadan to begin their celebrations long before December, adding that whatever comments emerged from the gathering should be viewed in the context of an intoxicated social party.
‘They went to Ibadan to start their own Detty December in November. When people decide to start their Detty December early, one can’t help but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths’, he said.
He added that the group had gathered purely for social enjoyment and, after indulging in drinks, were ‘free to say anything’, implying that their statements should not be taken too seriously.
Following a motion moved by a former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, which was seconded by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohamed, the national convention of the party resolved to expel Wike, Fayose and some other PDP leaders. They are: National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria; Imo State Chairman, Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, Hon. Umar Bature, Mohammed Abdulrahman; Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Wike-led faction, Senator Mao Ohabunwa; Hon. Austine Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner and Chief Dan Orbih.
Several court orders were issued stopping the PDP’s convention in Ibadan, including one that was issued on the eve of the event with several of PDP’s bigwigs urging the leadership to obey court order and avoid moves capable of imploding the party.
