The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified that the recent explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo was caused by an inferno, not explosives or aerial activity.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday and triggered panic among residents, but no casualties were recorded, the police confirmed.
In a statement, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Bashir Usman said that the explosion was caused by ‘an inferno which overheated air-conditioning and refrigerator gas cylinders, resulting in the loud explosions observed.
‘Investigations and expert assessments have confirmed that the incident was caused by an inferno. No explosives or aerial activity were involved.
‘Assessments conducted by EOD-CBRN (Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) experts, alongside the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, confirmed that no explosives or aerial activity were involved.
‘No loss of life or injuries occurred, as verified by the on-site expert teams’.
The Police Command urged the public and media to disregard unverified reports suggesting a bomb or helicopter involvement.
Usman further said: ‘We advise everyone to rely solely on official information.
‘The situation remains fully under control, and the Command remains committed to public safety and transparency’.
The Police Command emphasised that the explosion was accidental and involved no criminal activity.
Security agencies promptly secured the area to prevent further threats.
