To advance civic education at this time of general election, the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) has collaborated with the Community Life Project (CLP) to organise a national sensitsation seminar. The seminar was executed by NBC’s Ecumenism for Development and Peace Initiative (EDAPI) in partnership with the Community Life Project.

The Director of NBC’s Ecumenism and Interfaith Department, Dr Testimony Onifade said the national sensitisation is aimed at engaging spiritual leaders and build their capacity in civil and voter’s education to impact on citizen election observers. According to him, the seminar created a vantage avenue to thoroughly immerse religious leaders in the political process, and also equipped them with requisite skills in order to provide exemplary leadership and guidance.

Onifade also said that the citizenry requires adequate information and mobilisation in order to exercise their civic rights, which was why NBC partnered with CLP, headed by Dr Ngozi Iwere on the project.

NBC President, Dr Isreal Akanji said that the seminar provided verifiable platforms for spiritual leaders in particular and the public in general.

The NBC, according to him, is concerned about the nation’s political process and the seminar showcased its contribution to nation building.

The National Director, Education, Dialogue and Value System Initiatives, Dr Kehinde Babarinde urged leaders to provide adequate guidance to the people on voter education.

Notable speakers at the seminar included the Chairman of NBC’s Directorate of Ecumenism and Interfaith Relations, Prof, Deji Ayegboyin. Programme Executive for Peace Building  Department at the World Council of Churches, Dr Ibrahim Wushishi. Director of Programmes, All Africa Conference of Churches, Dr Lesmore Ezekiel, and others.
