The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of candidates for the 20 June 2026, bye-elections scheduled to fill vacant legislative seats across the six states of the federation.

The elections will be conducted in four senatorial districts, one federal constituency and one state constituency.

The senatorial by-elections will take place in Ondo South, Nasarawa North, Rivers South East and Enugu North, while voters in Kano’s Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency will elect a new member of the House of Representatives.

A bye-election will also be held for the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

According to the list released by the electoral commission, four candidates will contest the Ondo South Senatorial District seat.

They are Adesanya Olaoluwa of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Faduyile Francis Adedayo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwumi Adeolu Harrison of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Nejo Funso Clement of the Boot Party (BP).

In Nasarawa North Senatorial District, voters will choose among Halilu Danladi Envwulu-Aza of the APC, Labaran Maku of the Labour Party (LP), John Paul Araneshri of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Emmanuel David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

For the Rivers South East Senatorial District by-election, the candidates are Douglas Fabeeke Beeka of the Action Alliance (AA), Osarosaka Ebenezer Erewari of the APC, Sam Kinanee Barikpoa of the LP, and Nwogu Olaka Johnson of the PDP.

In Enugu North Senatorial District, three political parties made the final list. They are the APC, represented by Asogwa Ikeje Israel; the Boot Party, represented by Aneke Kingsley Chukwuebuka; and the PDP, represented by Ezeme Nestor Chika.

The commission had earlier indicated that only parties that met the nomination requirements within the stipulated deadline were cleared for the poll.

For the Kebbi State House of Assembly bye-election in Zuru Constituency, Garba Aiki Rabiu of the APC will face Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the LP.

The race for the House of Representatives seat in Kano’s Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency will feature Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC, Lawan Garba Haruna of the APM, and Abubakar Yahaya Muhammad of the LP.

INEC had fixed 20 June 2026, for the conduct of the bye-elections to fill vacancies created by deaths, resignations and other developments affecting representation in the affected constituencies.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has commenced legal action at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging what it describes as its unlawful exclusion from the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District by-election scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for 20 June 2026.

The bye-election was necessitated by the death of the late Senator Okey Ezea, who represented Enugu North Senatorial District on the platform of the Labour Party until his passing on 18 November 2025.

The National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, in a statement yesterday, indicated that the party fully complied with INEC’s timetable and guidelines by formally notifying the Commission on 11 May 2026, of its intention to conduct a senatorial primary election.
