Babcock University has announced plans to pursue legal action against Nigerian content creator and streamer Carter Efe over an alleged forged university certificate he shared on social media.

The controversy began after Carter Efe, during an interview with popular content creator Egungun of Lagos, claimed he had graduated from the private university with top honours.

Following the interview, the streamer posted what he described as his graduation certificate on X (formerly Twitter), claiming he earned a degree in Biochemistry with a “First Class Upper.”

However, in a public statement released on Sunday, Babcock University dismissed the claim, describing the certificate as fraudulent and warning members of the public against relying on it.

The institution clarified that it does not award any undergraduate classification known as “First Class Upper” and does not issue “Honorary Certificates” for academic performance.

“FRAUD ALERT. Babcock University does not issue ‘Honorary Certificates’ for undergraduate performance and has no classification known as ‘First Class Upper,'” the university stated.

“Any document claiming otherwise is fraudulent and should be disregarded. We urge the public to verify all credentials through the Office of the Registrar.”

The university also disclosed that it would take legal steps against those behind the alleged forgery.

“The University will pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible for these forgeries,” the statement added.

The development has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users questioning the authenticity of the certificate shared by Carter Efe and awaiting the streamer’s response to the allegations.
