The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has forwarded a reviewed remuneration package for political public office holders and retired permanent secretaries to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for consideration.
The Commission’s Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, disclosed this on Thursday while receiving members of the Council of Retired Permanent Secretaries at the RMAFC headquarters in Abuja.
Shehu said the Commission had examined concerns raised by the retired permanent secretaries as part of its constitutional mandate and incorporated several of their requests into the review process before submitting its recommendations to the President.
“We have carefully considered your case within our constitutional mandate and submitted our recommendations. We remain fully supportive of initiatives that will ensure retired Permanent Secretaries live dignified lives after years of meritorious service,” he said.
The RMAFC chairman commended retired permanent secretaries for their contributions to national development, describing them as key pillars of Nigeria’s public service architecture.
He noted that their experience and institutional knowledge remained valuable to governance even after retirement.
“Nothing can replace the experience of an experienced public servant. You are still relevant in shaping policy and advising the government on intricate national issues,” Shehu added.
The review of remuneration for political and public office holders, which began in 2025, represents the first comprehensive adjustment exercise in nearly two decades.
The process followed earlier approval by President Tinubu in 2024 of a revised remuneration package for judicial officers.
According to RMAFC, the exercise drew on stakeholder submissions, memoranda from public hearings, input from government ministries, prevailing economic conditions, and comparative remuneration structures in other countries.
The Commission also considered the Federal Government’s fiscal capacity to ensure that any proposed adjustments remain sustainable.
