Nigerian actor IK Ogbonna has denied reports linking him to an alleged romance scam involving a $75,000 transaction.

A report circulating online on Friday claimed that the actor had been invited and investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), over an alleged romance scam.

The report alleged that a 49-year-old American woman, identified as Kimberly Ann, filed a complaint against Ogbonna, claiming she had been in an online relationship with him since 2025.

However, the actor dismissed the claims in a statement shared on his Instagram story, describing the report as false and without factual basis.

“This report is completely false, malicious, and without any factual basis. I don’t support or participate in any form of internet fraud, romance scams, or any other fraudulent activity,” Ogbonna said.

The actor also warned members of the public about impersonators using his name and identity to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

He said it was not the first time his image had been used by people operating fake social media accounts to engage in fraudulent activities.

“I have never authorised anyone to represent me online, solicit money on my behalf, or engage in private conversations pretending to be me.

“Please remain vigilant and be extremely careful of impersonators and catfish accounts that exploit my identity to scam unsuspecting people,” he wrote.
