Nigerian sprinter Favour Ashe has praised the National Sports Commission (NSC) for the training camp provided for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, describing the facilities and welfare arrangements as first class.

Ashe said athletes had received their camp allowances in full and commended the quality of the accommodation, training facilities and catering.

“The camp has been excellent. Our allowances have been paid in full, the facilities are world-class and the feeding is of a very high standard. The National Sports Commission has done a fantastic job in ensuring we have everything we need to prepare for the Commonwealth Games,” he said.

According to Ashe, the arrangements have enabled athletes to concentrate fully on their preparations without concerns over welfare issues.

His comments echo those of former world and Olympic wrestling champion Daniel Igali, who recently commended the NSC’s leadership for prioritising athletes’ welfare during preparations for the Games.

The NSC, led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Bukola Olopade, has emphasised athlete welfare in the build-up to the Commonwealth Games, with Team Nigeria arriving in the United Kingdom early to allow adequate time for acclimatisation.

Ashe’s remarks reflect growing confidence within the Nigerian camp as the country finalises preparations for the Games, where athletes competing in athletics, weightlifting, boxing and para sports are expected to contend for medals.
