Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has approved the payment of the first phase of the medical expenses of veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, following her public appeal for financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries.
The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice, announced the intervention in a post on X on Tuesday.
According to him, Governor Otti approved the initial payment towards the actress’s treatment after learning of her health challenges.
“His Excellency @alexottiofr has stepped in to approve the first part of the medical bills of our Nollywood legend, Mrs Ngozi Nwosu,” Justice wrote.
He, however, noted that the intervention covered only part of the required medical expenses and appealed to members of the public to continue supporting the actress.
“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to support her in any way they can,” he added.
Justice also expressed gratitude to the governor on behalf of the creative industry for the gesture.
The intervention follows Nwosu’s recent appeal for financial assistance after she disclosed that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and required ₦30 million to undergo three urgent surgeries.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, the 62-year-old actress appealed to fans, colleagues and well-wishers not to abandon her, saying she could no longer cope with the cost of her treatment.
She also urged those willing to support her medical care to contact her management.
