Reigning Commonwealth Games champion and world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, will begin her bid for a third consecutive title on Thursday at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Amusan, who won gold at the previous two editions of the Games, has been drawn in the first of two heats alongside Ghana’s Evonne Britton, Canada’s Mariam Abdul-Rashid, Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill and other competitors.
The second heat features other leading contenders, including the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton and Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds.
The heats are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., with the final set for 9:49 p.m. at Scotstoun Stadium.
The Nigerian heads into the event as the favourite, having recorded the fastest season’s best in the field at 12.28 seconds.
Ahead of the Commonwealth Games, Amusan finished second at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, the venue where she set the women’s 100m hurdles world record of 12.12 seconds in 2022.
The 29-year-old has clocked 12.28 seconds on three occasions this season and has claimed two Diamond League victories, winning in Paris and Rabat.
Amusan won her first Commonwealth Games title at the 2018 Games on the Gold Coast, Australia, in a time of 12.68 seconds, becoming the first Nigerian woman to win the event.
She successfully defended the title four years later in Birmingham, setting a Games record of 12.30 seconds.
The Nigerian will now be aiming to complete a historic hat-trick of Commonwealth Games titles and could also improve her own Games record based on her performances this season.
Following the Commonwealth Games, Amusan will return to the Diamond League circuit, having already secured qualification for the final in Brussels, Belgium, on 4 and 5 September. She will also be seeking to reclaim the Diamond League title after winning three consecutive crowns between 2021 and 2023.
