Content creator and relationship commentator Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has disclosed that the wedding ceremony which recently sparked widespread reactions on social media was a staged publicity stunt and social experiment.
Videos showing GehGeh and a woman dressed in matching burgundy traditional attire at what appeared to be a wedding ceremony went viral over the weekend, prompting speculation that the outspoken influencer had secretly married.
The footage also attracted criticism from fans and fellow content creators, many of whom accused him of contradicting his long-held views on relationships and marriage. Even some members of his family reportedly questioned why they had not been invited to the supposed ceremony.
Speaking in an interview with StreamRewind, GehGeh dismissed the speculation, explaining that the event was never intended to be a genuine wedding.
“It was organised as a normal promotional stunt. Apart from the fact that we deliberately staged it, I also wanted to gauge the public’s reaction,” he said in Pidgin English.
According to him, the exercise was also designed to address what he described as widespread misconceptions about the teachings of his “GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University”.
“Many people have misunderstood what my GehGeh Wisdom and Knowledge University stands for. They keep saying GehGeh told them not to get married, yet they believe I have now married,” he said.
GehGeh maintained that he has never advised people against marriage altogether, insisting that his position has always been to advocate polygamy rather than monogamy.
“I have never opposed marriage. I said, ‘Do not marry, and even if you must marry, choose polygamy,’ because I believe polygamy protects a man from heartbreak,” he said.
Explaining his views, the content creator argued that having multiple wives reduces the likelihood of emotional manipulation by a single partner.
“When a man has different women, it becomes difficult for one woman to manipulate him. That was the practice of our forefathers, and it is one of the core principles of my university,” he added.
GehGeh’s clarification comes days after the viral wedding videos triggered intense debate across social media, with many questioning whether the influencer had abandoned the relationship philosophy that has become a defining feature of his online persona.
