Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a heartfelt message of support to Lionel Messi following the death of the Argentine football star’s father, Jorge Messi.

Ronaldo reached out to his longtime football rival during the difficult period, offering words of encouragement to Messi and his family as they mourn the loss.

According to a post by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X on Wednesday, Ronaldo said: “Huge hug to you and your loved ones in this difficult moment, Leo. Stay strong.”

The gesture has once again highlighted the mutual respect between Ronaldo and Messi, who have shared one of football’s most celebrated rivalries for more than a decade.

Although the pair competed fiercely against each other during their careers, particularly during their respective spells at Real Madrid and Barcelona, they have consistently expressed admiration for one another away from the pitch.

Messi’s father, Jorge, died at the age of 68 following a prolonged illness. He played a significant role in his son’s career, serving as his representative and supporting him from his early days at Newell’s Old Boys through his move to Barcelona at the age of 13.

Jorge was also instrumental in helping Messi secure the growth hormone treatment he required as a youngster, before later managing several aspects of his son’s professional career.

His death has reportedly been a deeply emotional moment for Messi, who regarded his father as a major source of support throughout his remarkable football journey.
