Nigerian Afrobeats singer Omah Lay has revealed that he has stopped forcing himself to quit smoking after several unsuccessful attempts to break the habit.
The ‘Soso’ crooner made the disclosure during a recent podcast interview with DJ Dan, where he opened up about his relationship with smoking and his struggles to give it up.
Omah Lay said he had tried repeatedly to stop smoking but found it difficult to overcome the habit. According to the singer, he has now decided to accept himself as a smoker rather than continue putting pressure on himself to quit.
“I love smoking a lot. I tried to stop, I forced myself but I can’t. Honestly bro, life is just one. I am going to just die one day. We are all going to die one day,” he said.
The singer said smoking gives him what he described as “artificial happiness”, while also providing a sense of rebellion because cannabis is illegal in Nigeria.
“I just want to be at peace and smoke my weed. And the fact that it is illegal in Nigeria, it gives me artificial happiness and a sense of rebellion,” Omah Lay added.
He said he had chosen to focus on enjoying his life rather than continuing to struggle with the habit.
“This is it. This is my life. I will just live it. I will enjoy every single thing that I have,” he said.
