The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced a review of the results of the 2026 governorship election across the state’s 332 wards as it considers its next course of action.
The party said it was studying the results following the declaration of Accord Party candidate and incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke as winner of the August 15 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC said it was examining the results with a view to determining whether to challenge aspects of the electoral process through the available legal channels.
“We are currently studying the results of the governorship election in each of the 332 wards across the state with a view to exploring further the allowed constitutional window of opportunity in this regard,” the party stated.
The APC stressed that an election did not end with the declaration of results, noting that dissatisfied parties could pursue legal remedies through the election tribunal and subsequent courts.
“We are not unaware of the fact that election is a process which begins at the registration of voters through the primary election to the election proper, which extends to the Tribunal, the Appeal Court and terminates at the Supreme Court,” it said.
The party argued that alleged irregularities could be addressed through the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026, as amended, and said it would consult its legal team before deciding whether to commence legal proceedings.
“We shall not hesitate without further delay to explore the window allowed by the extant Electoral Act after due consultation with the team of our lawyers based on their professional advice,” the statement added.
The APC also commended its members and supporters for their efforts during the election, saying their commitment had taken the party to an important stage in the political history of Osun State.
It reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, fairness and justice, while urging its supporters to remain calm and avoid confrontations with members of the ruling party.
The party further appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to protect its members whom it alleged were being harassed by supporters of the ruling party.
The APC assured its members that it would not abandon them, describing the current political situation as temporary and expressing confidence that justice would ultimately prevail.
