The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new running mate to Governor Nasir Idris for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, during a thank-you visit by stakeholders from the Argungu Emirate to the governor.
Argungu said the decision to replace the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida Arugungu, was based on professional legal advice regarding his eligibility to contest as the governor’s running mate in the 2027 election.
“The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice,” he said.
He subsequently announced Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new APC deputy governorship candidate for the election.
The APC official stressed that the decision was taken with the understanding and consent of Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, insisting that there was no disagreement between the governor and his deputy.
He urged APC members, supporters and political stakeholders across the state to accept the development and remain united ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Governor Nasir Idris also dismissed reports of a disagreement between him and the outgoing deputy governor.
The governor assured party members that he would work with the new running mate and called for unity and continued focus on the development of Kebbi State.
Ibrahim Muhammad Augie previously served as Commissioner for Finance in Kebbi State under former Governor Atiku Bagudu.
He is from Augie Local Government Area of the state.
The change in the APC ticket comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 governorship election across the country.
