Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has awarded N20 million each to two outstanding graduates of Lagos State University (LASU) for their exceptional academic performances.
The governor announced the cash awards on Wednesday during the university’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale of the Department of Project Management, who emerged the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.96, and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, who topped the 2025/2026 session with a CGPA of 4.97.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated the two graduates, describing their performances as evidence of the high academic standards and talent being produced by the institution.
The governor also highlighted the scale of the combined convocation, noting that 20,604 students graduated from the university, making it the largest graduating cohort in LASU’s history.
He said the graduates included 494 students who attained first-class honours.
The graduating cohort also featured 3,383 postgraduate students, including 238 doctoral degree recipients.
The governor said the achievements of the graduates reflected the importance of sustained investment in education and encouraged them to apply their knowledge and skills toward the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.
The monetary recognition for the two best graduating students is expected to further encourage academic excellence among students of the university.
