Five adult men have reportedly died in a road crash involving a Toyota Camry and an Iveco truck on the Badagry Expressway in Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the crash occurred at about 5.16am at Sawmill, near Mowo Bus Stop, along the Badagry Expressway.
He said the agency deployed its Dolphin Team to the scene shortly after receiving the report.
Preliminary findings indicated that the Toyota Camry, with registration number FKJ 630KS, collided head-on with an Iveco truck marked T28081 LA.
Oke-Osanyintolu said the crash was allegedly caused by speeding and reckless driving by the Camry driver, who reportedly lost control, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming truck.
“The remains of the victims were carefully recovered, bagged with dignity, and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps,” he said.
LASEMA deployed two tow trucks to remove the damaged vehicles and facilitate the restoration of normal traffic flow.
The vehicles were subsequently taken to the Morogbo Police Division, while the affected section of the road was cleared and reopened to motorists.
Oke-Osanyintolu expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls.
He also urged motorists to avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking and other reckless driving practices, particularly during the early hours of the day.
