Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about the emotional significance of securing major cinema roles after years of working in the Nigerian film industry.
The actress is set to make her cinema debut in November and December with two highly anticipated films, The Secret Life of Baba Sege, produced by EbonyLife boss Mo Abudu, and The Figurines, produced by Ashang Becca.
In a video shared online shortly after wrapping up a shoot, Nkechi became emotional as she reflected on her career journey, the challenges she had faced and the criticism she endured along the way.
The actress expressed disbelief at how far she had come, particularly after being given the opportunity to feature in a project by one of Nigeria’s leading filmmakers.
“I just wrapped set like 20 minutes ago, and I have just been thinking. I am actually going to be in movies coming to cinemas, from one of the top filmmakers, Mo Abudu. How did all of this happen?” she said.
Nkechi also recalled an incident in which she was publicly questioned about the number of cinema films she had featured in.
According to her, the remark came from someone close to her in the industry and had a deep emotional impact on her.
“I remember when I was insulted, ‘How many cinema movies have I done?’ That was an attack from someone close to me, but that’s a story for another day,” she said.
Reflecting on the challenges she has experienced in Nollywood, the actress credited perseverance and faith for helping her remain committed to her career.
“I have been through a lot in this industry, and God still managed to see me through because I refused to give up. So many things can change as long as you don’t give up,” she added.
Nkechi also expressed gratitude to those who supported her and recommended her for the roles, revealing that she received significant financial compensation for her work.
“Thank you to every single person who sat in the room and mentioned my name for that script. I got it, shot it, and was paid heavily – I mean millions of naira,” she said.
