The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and pay attention to warning signs that may indicate an impending building collapse.
The agency issued the warning in a post on its X platform on Sunday, noting that building collapses are often preceded by visible or audible signs of structural distress.
NEMA identified cracks, unusual sounds, tilting walls, sagging floors and other noticeable structural changes as warning signs that should not be ignored.
The agency urged members of the public to learn how to identify such signs and take prompt action to prevent loss of lives and property.
“A building collapse doesn’t happen without warning,” NEMA said.
The agency also encouraged Nigerians to watch for, learn about and share information on building collapse warning signs while remaining vigilant about the safety of structures around them.
NEMA stressed that early recognition of structural problems and timely action could help prevent potentially devastating incidents.
