The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria following an eventful first year in office.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by Yilwatda’s Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, describing the vacation as a well-deserved break after months of intensive engagements, consultations and strategic activities.
According to the APC, Yilwatda has, since assuming office, worked with members of the National Working Committee (NWC), governors, National Assembly members, state party structures and other stakeholders to strengthen the party and improve its electoral competitiveness.
The party said his tenure had seen the successful conduct of its National Convention, the strengthening of internal structures and primary elections at various levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It added that the developments had further consolidated the APC’s position as one of Nigeria’s dominant political parties.
The statement described Yilwatda’s vacation as a temporary step back rather than a disengagement from party affairs, saying he would use the period to rest, retool and reflect on the next phase of the party’s development.
He is also expected to use the break to sharpen his strategic plans ahead of the 2027 elections and finalise preparations for the forthcoming NWC retreat.
The retreat is expected to review the party’s progress, identify areas requiring attention and develop strategies for the months ahead.
The APC stressed that Yilwatda’s absence would not disrupt the party’s operations, noting that the NWC would continue to function in accordance with the party’s constitution.
The National Chairman is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation and resume his official responsibilities.
