The Amanyanabo of Nembe, His Eminence King Edmund Daukoru, Mingi XII, has endorsed the appointment of veteran journalist Mingi-Yai Nengi Josef Owei-Ilagha as Media Chief to the Mingi-In-Council.
The monarch confirmed Owei-Ilagha as the appropriate choice for the position, according to a statement issued by the Alternate Chairman of the Nembe Chiefs Council, Chief Moses Solomon-Ockiya.
Solomon-Ockiya praised Owei-Ilagha, popularly known as “Pope Pen”, for his achievements as a journalist and author, describing his professional contributions as a source of pride and honour to the Nembe Kingdom.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Oil and Gas Committee, Chief Bright Erewari-Igbeta, commended Owei-Ilagha for his accomplishments and welcomed the decision to engage his experience and professional expertise in managing and promoting the image of the kingdom.
Erewari-Igbeta stressed the importance of unity within the kingdom, saying Nembe must pursue peace and speak with one voice in the overall interest of its people.
He made the remarks while reacting to a recent social media post by Gabriel Jonah of the Otita Movement, which called for the proceeds from the kingdom’s oil and gas resources to be applied to judicious and verifiable purposes.
Owei-Ilagha brings extensive experience to his new role, having served twice as Speech Writer and Special Adviser on Research and Documentation to two former Governors of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
He spent seven years working in those capacities and has continued to contribute to journalism, literature and public communication.
Owei-Ilagha is also a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors and has authored more than 40 books.
His appointment is expected to strengthen the communication, image management and public engagement efforts of the Mingi-In-Council and further promote the interests of the Nembe Kingdom.
