The Media Integrity Initiative Africa (MIIA) has announced that the sixth edition of its free quarterly online training programme will hold on 15 and 22 August 2026.
The training, which will take place via Zoom, is scheduled to run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. West African Time on both days.
In a statement issued on Monday, the MIIA Coordinator, Femi Akintunde-Johnson, said the latest edition underscored the organisation’s commitment to developing ethical, innovative and future-ready media professionals across Africa.
He noted that since its inception, the initiative has continued to provide practical, high-impact professional development opportunities for journalists, editors, broadcasters, public relations practitioners and other communication professionals.
According to him, the August 2026 edition is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving media landscape.
The first day of the programme, on 15 August, will feature a session titled Words That Divide: Media Stigmatisation and the Challenge of National Cohesion, to be facilitated by Tony Onyima, former Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Newspapers and former Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism. The second session, Multimedia Storytelling 101, will be led by Adeboye Ola, Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos.
On 22 August, participants will attend Telling Human Interest Stories in Health Reporting, facilitated by veteran health editor Oluyinka Shokunbi, President of the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists of Nigeria. The final session, New Forms of Storytelling: What Matters?, will be delivered by Azu Ishiekwene, Senior Vice Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Leadership Newspapers.
