Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals and movements to security agencies following reports of planned terrorist attacks targeting places of worship in parts of the state.
The warning followed an alert by the Department of State Services (DSS), which has prompted calls for increased public vigilance and intelligence sharing across the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke urged residents to report unusual activities in their communities, particularly the movement or influx of unfamiliar individuals in border communities.
“We must provide the police and other security agencies with intelligence reports on noticeable threats in our communities.
“As we are aware of alleged plots to attack our places of worship, we must become extra vigilant. Report anything unusual without any delay,” the governor said.
Adeleke commended the DSS for taking what he described as proactive measures to counter the reported security threats.
He also directed other security agencies in the state to review the situation and develop an action plan to strengthen the protection of lives and property across Osun.
The governor further disclosed that he would soon convene a meeting of the State Security Council to assess the security situation and review the effectiveness of existing response plans.
He urged residents to remain calm but alert, stressing the importance of timely information sharing in preventing potential attacks and safeguarding communities.
