Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed security agencies to immediately suspend all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state.
The directive followed a meeting of the Osun State Security Council held on Sunday and chaired by the governor.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Amotekun Corps, as well as senior state government officials, including the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Information.
According to Governor Adeleke, the decision followed extensive deliberations on the security situation in the state and was aimed at restoring order in motor parks.
He directed security agencies to stop the collection of levies by the union and prevent anyone from operating in the name of the NURTW in motor parks across Osun State.
The governor also instructed the police and other security agencies to arrest anyone claiming to be an official or executive of the union in any of the state’s motor parks.
“I hereby direct the Police and other security agencies to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbing public peace,” Adeleke said.
Security chiefs at the meeting assured the governor of their commitment to enforcing the directive.
Adeleke also ordered the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising all security agencies in the state to ensure strict compliance with the order.
