The Rivers State Ministry of Transport has given commercial transport operators in the state until October 31, 2026, to paint their vehicles in the approved state colours.
The state government said the directive was aimed at improving public safety and making legitimate commercial transport vehicles easier for commuters to identify.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Transport, Dr Vera Sam-Dike.
The ministry said the directive applies to taxi, bus and tricycle, popularly known as Keke, operators across the state.
It, however, warned that monitoring and enforcement would commence immediately after the deadline, beginning on November 1, 2026.
According to the ministry, any commercial vehicle found operating without the approved colour scheme after the deadline would be impounded.
The operator would also be barred from providing commercial transport services until the vehicle was brought into compliance and applicable fines paid.
The statement described the directive as a “vital safety measure” intended to improve public security and ensure that legitimate commercial transport vehicles are easily identifiable by commuters.
The ministry urged all affected operators to comply with the directive before the October 31 deadline to avoid sanctions.
