Veteran Nollywood actor Ebun Oloyede, popularly known as Olaiya Igwe, has debunked reports claiming that he is battling an illness.

The rumours began after a video shared by one of his colleagues showed the actor being assisted into a house by some people while other actors watched.

The footage circulated widely on social media, prompting concern among fans who feared that the veteran actor was seriously ill.

However, Olaiya Igwe has clarified that he is in good health, explaining that the viral video was recorded on a movie set.

In a video shared in response to the reports, the actor revealed that he was portraying a sick character in a film produced for fellow actor Mr Latin.

He explained that he deliberately made the performance convincing as part of his commitment to his craft and versatility as an actor.

“May God not allow us to be sick. Anyone who does this kind of work should be able to play any role. I did exactly what the director asked me to do,” he said.

According to Olaiya Igwe, the scene showed him returning from hospital while his children cared for him as he recovered.

He added that actors are expected to portray their characters convincingly, regardless of whether their performances attract praise or criticism.

“For those who are genuinely concerned, please relax. There’s no problem. I was performing my role; as you know, I am a versatile actor,” he said.

The actor also addressed the mixed reactions to the video, noting that while some people expressed genuine concern, others made negative comments about his health.

He appreciated those who reached out to check on him and prayed that no evil would befall them.

“I want to sincerely appreciate those who showed their concern for me. I pray that evil will not come your way,” he added.
