Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has named the late former Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as his favourite Nigerian politician of all time.
Edochie made this known during a recent episode of Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator BaeU.
The veteran actor, who said he was not actively involved in politics, praised Awolowo for his contributions to Nigeria’s development, particularly in education and broadcasting.
According to Edochie, Awolowo was responsible for introducing free primary education and establishing Nigeria’s first television station.
“I am not into politics, but if you ask me who is or was my favourite politician, I will tell you it is Obafemi Awolowo,” he said.
Edochie noted that Awolowo introduced television to Nigeria in 1959, describing the development as a major milestone for the country and Africa.
He also commended the former Western Region premier for introducing free primary education and for being transparent about his plans and how he intended to fund them.
The actor, however, expressed regret that despite Awolowo’s achievements and influence in Nigeria’s political history, he never became President of the country.
