Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has cautioned supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the claim that he has endorsed him.

Obasanjo expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as unauthorised report of the discussion at the closed doors meeting he held with Tinubu.

Tinubu led a delegation to visit Obasanjo in Abeokuta last Wednesday, among whom was House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

At the Surulere Local Government Area meeting of the APC on Thursday, Gbajabiamila spoke excitedly about the meeting with Obasanjo, saying that the former Nigerian president made encouraging statements about Tinubu’s aspiration and even prayed for the APC presidential candidate. He added that with what transpired at the closed-door meeting in Abeokuta, Tinubu’s presidency was almost a reality.

But in a statement his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi on Saturday, the former president cautioned that the statements “coming from those claiming to be supporters of Bola Tinubu are unhelpful”.

Obasanjo described the statement credited to him as fake.

The former president said the discussion during the visit was “more brotherly than political”.

He explained that Tinubu requested that either side should not make a public statement on what was discussed in the meeting.

“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statement on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good”, Obasanjo said.
