Enugu gov unveils 101 new aides

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved the appointment of 101 Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants to support his administration.

The appointments were announced on Monday in a public service announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, and take effect immediately.

According to the statement, the appointments comprise seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants.

Those appointed as Special Advisers include Chief S.N.C. Nwagu, who will oversee Conflict Resolution and Mediation; Hon. Dr Fidelis Odo, Inter-Governmental Affairs and Co-ordination; Augustine Okoli, Policy Affairs and Analysis; Hon. Pedro Nwankwo, Stakeholders Relations and Community Affairs; Chimezie Nkwuo, Economic Development; Chief Vitalis Okonkwo, Grassroots Coordination; and Peter Andy Omeje, Commerce and Business Development.

In the Senior Special Adviser category, Rachael Okonkwo was appointed to oversee Film and Creative Industry Development, while Barr. Okey Ude will handle Inter-Party and Mobilisation.

Other SSAs include Hon. Chinedu Chukwunwike, Party Monitoring; Barr. Peter Chukwujekwu Ogbe, Legal and Regulatory Compliance; Chukwudi Ozoeluba, Boundary and Land Dispute Resolution; and Frank Udemezue, Small and Medium Enterprise Development.

The 88 Special Assistants were assigned portfolios covering areas such as security, environmental protection, youth engagement, media, grassroots mobilisation and community relations.

Among them are Hon. Alachi Aaron Onu, Forest Protection and Conservation; Dr Okwoigwe Modestus Ndubuisi, Health Facility Maintenance; Mrs Eucharia Anunobi, Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North Zone; Hon. Okwudili Onuora, Security Intelligence; and Chukwudi Nwatu, Social Media.

Other portfolios include Market Decongestion, Road Infrastructure Maintenance, Humanitarian Band and Entertainment, Civic Education and Voter Awareness, and Non-Indigene Relations.

Reacting to the appointments, a political scientist based in Enugu, Dr Ifeanyi Nnamani, said the creation of portfolios covering areas such as inter-party affairs, voter awareness and grassroots mobilisation could indicate an increased focus on political organisation ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

“The spread of these appointments, particularly the inclusion of specialists in youth engagement, women mobilisation, and inter-party relations, is a classic pre-election strategy.

“It is about strengthening the party’s structure at the ward level and ensuring that the administration’s policies are effectively communicated to the electorate,” Nnamani said.

The state government statement reiterated that all 101 appointments take effect immediately.
