The FCT Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl inside a parked vehicle in Abuja.
The command said the incident was discovered on October 2, 2026, when officers attached to its Anti-Kidnapping Unit were on routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, officers noticed a fully tinted navy-blue Volkswagen vehicle with registration number KMC567LQ parked at the location with its windows wound up.
Adeh said the vehicle was also observed to be shaking, prompting the officers to suspect that something was wrong.
“The officers, suspecting foul play, approached the vehicle and opened it, only to see one Zayyanu Halilu raping a twelve (12) year old minor,” she said.
The suspect was subsequently arrested while the victim was rescued.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions in the same vehicle at the location.
According to the command, the suspect allegedly threatened to “deal with her” if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
The police further said a medical examination revealed that the victim was about three months pregnant, allegedly as a result of the abuse.
The victim is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in police custody.
The command said Halilu would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the whereabouts, safety and welfare of children in their care.
The command also urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
