Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will lead a government-to-government peer exchange focused on accelerating nutrition delivery.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Nkwocha said Shettima was visiting Ethiopia at the invitation of the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is championing a multi-sectoral approach to improving nutrition.
The Vice President will participate in the inaugural Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange Visit, aimed at providing an opportunity for key stakeholders from both countries to share experiences on developing federal, state and local partnerships on nutrition.
According to Nkwocha, the Nigerian delegation will also exchange ideas with Ethiopian officials on how government-led initiatives can strengthen nutrition delivery and outcomes.
He said the delegation would tour several facilities and projects involved in improving nutrition delivery across Ethiopia.
The locations scheduled for visits include a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia; the ‘Bounty of the Basket’ Training Centre and selected households in Mojo; and Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.
Shettima is accompanied on the trip by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi.
Also in the delegation are the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu; the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; and the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Abubakar.
Nkwocha said the Vice President would return to Abuja after concluding his engagements in Addis Ababa.
