The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, has ordered the immediate issuance of queries to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of 3-3 Police Station and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) over the disappearance of an armed robbery suspect allegedly arrested and taken to the station.
Ama also directed the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against an Inspector of Police attached to the division.
The directives followed allegations contained in a viral video claiming that an armed robbery suspect who had reportedly been arrested and brought to the station could no longer be accounted for.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the commissioner issued the directives on October 5, 2026, after personally interviewing the complainant and the police officers involved.
According to Ikenga, Ama described the allegation as serious and capable of undermining public confidence in the police.
The commissioner stressed that the Command would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty, abuse of office or any compromise of established procedures by its personnel.
Ama subsequently directed the Command’s X-Squad to carry out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts, as well as the roles played by the officers involved.
The commissioner also disclosed that necessary operational measures had been put in place to facilitate the arrest of the suspect.
He assured members of the public that the Command would make the outcome of the investigation public once the relevant facts had been established.
Ikenga quoted Ama as cautioning members of the public against circulating unverified information that could prejudice the investigation, stressing the need for the facts to be established through due process.
Ama reiterated that accountability remained a key part of his leadership philosophy, adding that no police officer was above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process.
