The naira depreciated to N1,362 per dollar at the parallel market on Tuesday, down from N1,357 recorded on Monday.
However, the local currency appreciated at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), where it strengthened to N1,331.5 per dollar from N1,332.9 on Monday.
Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria showed that the indicative exchange rate improved by N1.4 per dollar, reflecting a marginal appreciation of the naira at the official market.
The divergence between the two markets consequently widened, with the gap increasing to N30.5 per dollar from N24.1 recorded on Monday.
Meanwhile, trading activity at the NFEM increased sharply, with interbank turnover rising by 334.8 per cent to $313.6 million from $72.12 million on Monday.
The figures indicate increased activity in the official foreign exchange market even as the naira recorded contrasting movements across the parallel and official markets.
