The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State has confirmed the death of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in a road accident in Ibadan.
The accident occurred on Monday around Agodi Gardens and involved a motorcycle conveying the corps member and an articulated truck.
The FRSC Oyo Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Dahunsi said the corps member died in the crash, while the motorcycle rider sustained a fracture in his leg.
He explained that the deceased’s body was taken to the State Hospital morgue, while the injured rider was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for medical treatment.
According to the sector commander, the identity of the deceased corps member could not be established during the rescue operation.
He added that FRSC personnel responded to the incident and carried out an emergency rescue operation, ensuring that the injured rider was taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, the NYSC Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Mrs Abimbola Faniyi, said efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased and establish her Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).
Faniyi disclosed that the corps was working to obtain the necessary details of the deceased.
The incident has renewed concerns about road safety, particularly the risks faced by vulnerable road users, including motorcyclists and their passengers.
