The Ogun State Government has approved a welfare grant of ₦50,000 each for 3,050 members of the 2026 Batch C, Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) undergoing their orientation programme at the Sagamu camp.

The intervention, approved by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, is aimed at easing the financial burden on corps members amid prevailing economic challenges and improving their welfare during the orientation exercise.

The disbursement of the grants commenced on Monday, with each eligible corps member expected to receive ₦50,000 to help cover personal expenses and other essential needs.

The total financial support amounts to ₦152.5 million, reflecting the state government’s commitment to supporting young Nigerians participating in the national service scheme.

The government acknowledged that many corps members are away from their families and familiar environments, leaving them to manage new financial and personal responsibilities as they begin their service year.

It said the intervention was designed to provide relief and make their transition into the programme more manageable.

In addition to the financial grants, the state government has approved the donation of 500 mattresses to the NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu.

The donation is intended to improve accommodation and provide more comfortable living conditions for corps members during their orientation programme.

The intervention comes amid an increase in the number of corps members deployed to Ogun State, creating a need for further investment in camp facilities and essential amenities.

According to the government, the provision of mattresses forms part of its broader efforts to strengthen the state’s capacity to accommodate corps members and maintain appropriate welfare standards.

The Abiodun administration also highlighted the importance of the NYSC scheme in promoting national unity, cultural integration, leadership development and community service.

Corps members contribute to various sectors, including education, healthcare and community development, by applying their skills and knowledge to address the needs of their host communities.

The government maintained that their welfare remains an important consideration in creating an environment where they can carry out their assignments effectively.

It added that it would continue to explore measures to improve facilities at the orientation camp in response to changing needs and the growing number of corps members posted to the state.

The state government also urged corps members to uphold discipline, patriotism, tolerance and selfless service while taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the programme to contribute to national development.

It reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that promote youth welfare, social inclusion and human capital development, describing young Nigerians as important partners in building a prosperous society.
