The committee also reviewed several cases, convicted 69 inmates after considering their pleas and reduced prison terms in some cases involving civil-related matters.
Some sentences were reduced significantly, with a 17-year jail term cut to four years, a six-year sentence reduced to two years and a five-year term lowered to six months.
Addressing inmates after the exercise, Abdulrahaman urged those released to avoid criminal activities, maintain good conduct and pursue productive means of livelihood.
She also encouraged those who remained in custody to be disciplined, conduct themselves responsibly and remain hopeful as they awaited the determination of their cases or possible release.
The committee said the exercise formed part of its efforts to review inmates’ cases and address issues relating to prolonged detention and other circumstances warranting judicial intervention.
