Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has supervised the installation of a new 25-foot statue of the late Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi at the Fajuyi Memorial Park in Ado-Ekiti as part of efforts to upgrade the tourist centre.

The installation marks the final phase of the remodelling of the memorial park, which the state government says is being transformed into a world-class tourist destination.

The redesigned facility is expected to feature a viewing centre, food court, games section, meeting rooms, children’s section, shopping area, mini museum, dome and tower offering panoramic views of Ado-Ekiti, among other attractions.

The new statue, described as a major feature of the revamped park, honours the memory of the late Colonel Fajuyi, a former Military Governor of the defunct Western Region who was killed during the July 1966 military coup after reportedly refusing to abandon the then Head of State, General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi.

The Oyebanji administration said tourism development remains a key component of its development agenda, with the government seeking to boost Ekiti’s economy and attract more people to live, work, invest and relax in the state.

When completed, the upgraded Fajuyi Memorial Park is expected to add to the state’s tourism infrastructure and provide new recreational and commercial opportunities in Ado-Ekiti.
