The Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) has announced the death of veteran journalist and pastor, Yemi Joseph Ojo, who died last Friday in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, at the age of 67.

Ojo, a member of the 1986 Diploma set of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, spent 21 years in the media industry, working with several prominent Nigerian newspapers, including the Nigerian Tribune, The PUNCH, Concord and Champion.

In a condolence statement signed by NIJAA General Secretary, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji, the association described the deceased as a gentleman and consummate professional whose contributions to journalism and humanity would be greatly missed.

The statement noted that Ojo left Nigeria in 1999 but maintained his connection with journalism and the alumni association, continuing to represent the NIJ community in the United States.

According to the association, he initially worked as a residential manager, providing care for vulnerable individuals, before becoming a quality assurance manager. He also served as a pastor.

NIJAA said Ojo was admired for his calm disposition, wisdom, sense of humour and willingness to support friends and associates.

Beyond his professional achievements, the association said he offered spiritual guidance, counselling and support to many people in Baltimore, Maryland.

It extended its condolences to his family in Windsor Mill and Baltimore, as well as his friends, former colleagues and members of the NIJAA.

The association prayed for God to grant the bereaved family and the journalism community the strength to bear the loss, while also praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
