Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued unhurt two kidnapped victims from their abductors at the ECN junction along Agbarho-Ughelli Road.
The police also recovered from the abductors 26 pieces of Android phones, one cut-to-size locally-made single barrel gun, 38 rounds of live cartridges, two expended cartridges, two Moniepoint Point of Sales (PoS) machines, four power banks as well as two empty female handbags.
A tricycle with number plate KPE 73 QT used by the suspected kidnappers was also recovered.
According to the police, at about 2 pm on Monday, “the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Owvian Aladja, Chief Superintendent Aliyu Shaba received a distress call that two persons, Ovigwe Dagagba (31) and Obinna Nwanko (29), both of Usiefurun community in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, were kidnapped by a gang of four armed men operating on a tricycle.
“The kidnappers had reportedly conveyed them in a Toyota Corolla car belonging to one of the victims from the Usiefurun roundabout and headed towards Udu Local Government Area”.
The DPO was said to have led a team of policemen to pursue the suspect and succeeded in intercepting them at the ECN Junction, along Agbarho-Ughelli Road.
During a gun duel that followed, the kidnappers were said to have abandoned the car and their victims and fled.
The exhibits were recovered from the car while the victims were rescued unhurt.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Bright Edafe said: “While the manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of Operations, DCP Johnson Ademola, has directed officers and men of the command to sustain this tempo in the fight against crime and criminality”.
