An NGO, the Inclusive Education and Individualised Education Programme (IEIEPC) has adopted Blue House (now known as IEIEPC House) at Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home, Akoka, Lagos.
This is part of its intervention as members of the NGO recently joined the school in its inter-house sports competition.
A member of IEIEPC Board, Mr Ademola Olusunmade said the NGO organised a train-the-trainers conference for special education teachers in Ogun State last month in furtherance of its support for the sector.
At that workshop in Abeokuta, the Director of Special Needs Education in state’s Ministry of Education, Mr Olusanjo Majekodunmi acknowledged the efforts of IEIEPC. He said the state had been practising inclusive education and assured the teachers that they would have a lot to learn from the programme.
The one-day free workshop for Special Education Teachers in the state was held at Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta on 22nd April. Issues relating to inclusive education, special education, classroom management, effective teaching strategies, IEP design/implementation, Teacher-Parent collaboration and ICT relevance for special education were discussed extensively.
Experts in the field of special and inclusive education facilitated various sessions.
In the end, teachers testified that the training was indeed an eye-opener and very impactful.
“Last year we did for Oyo State special education teachers and did a case conference in Lagos in 2020. We plan to extend to Osun State later this year. This area of education is largely neglected”, Olusunmade wrote on his Facebook wall.
IEIEPC is an NGO devoted to advocacy and enlightenment campaign for inclusive education, training of teachers, counsellors, and parents of children with special needs.
