The residents of Utagba-Uno in Ndokwa-West Local Government Area of Delta State have urged the state’s Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme to prioritise infrastructure among other indices of development.

According to a statement on Friday, the leader of a 21-man delegation, Rear Admiral Mike Onah (rtd.) made the call during a courtesy visit at the government house, in Asaba.

In his address, Onah, who was represented by Dr. Agaga Akpati and Onotu Emegwali, said he had confidence that with Onyeme and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the state would experience development in all areas.

He said: “We are using this medium to appeal passionately to the governor to use his position to ameliorate the long neglect of Utagba-Uno people by the previous successive governments in Delta State because no meaningful development in the area has justified its abundant resources.

“We urge the state to construct the Onitcha-Ukwuani/Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road, embark on Utagba-Uno electrification, upgrade the poor Utagba-Uno Health Centres to Cottage Hospitals and provide proper drainage systems to control flood in Etua, Umusam, and Umuseti and other areas”.

In his response, Onyeme said: “Onitcha-Ukwuani and Utagba-Uno are one and indivisible – and this government will surely prioritise the construction of roads networks in the area, and those in other areas in Ukwuani nation generally because there are few or no roads in the whole of Ndokwa nation.

“Flooding is a natural disaster owing to the degradation of the environment, and people should clear and clean their surroundings to minimise its effects, while the state government will also look into the provision of drainages for the already constructed streets and the subsequent ones when the budget is made”.
