Firm empowers 501 female entrepreneurs

Flourish Africa, a women empowerment organisation founded by Apostle Folorunso Alakija, has trained the second batch of 501 female entrepreneurs and beneficiaries through its business and life skills training programme.

At the event held in Lagos, Alakija disclosed that, out of the 501 trainees, 100 of them received seed grants of up to N2 million each for their businesses, having emerged successful from a business pitch competition.

The philanthropist said: “We are extremely happy to report that Flourish Africa is gradually becoming a household name in Nigeria for the empowerment of women in all facets of life.

“Today, we are gathered to celebrate the success of the second cohort of 501 female entrepreneurs who have completed a four-month Business and Life Skills training programme”.

In 2020, Forbes ranked Alakija as the richest woman in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $1 billion.

West Africa Regional Director of Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs, Ms. Em Ekong advised the graduates on the need for them to take full advantage of “the opportunities that the Flourish Africa network has provided by ensuring that they deploy the knowledge gained for the greater good”.

The Regional Director of Bank of Industry, Nigeria, Dr.  Kings Jack, who was represented by the Group Head for Gender Business Group at Large Enterprises Directorate, Adebola Oruma noted that the agency has multiple platforms for women to get the right support, including access to funding.
